    Eurostat Reports Flat Industrial Output in Eurozone as EU Edges Up by 0.2%

    BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / RankWire.AI / – In June 2026, industrial activity within the euro area remained unchanged from the previous month, while the European Union experienced a modest increase of 0.2%. According to Eurostat, both regions had registered a 0.3% growth in May. Compared to June 2025, output grew by 0.1% in the euro zone and 0.6% across the EU. The June data pointed to improvements in energy and some consumer goods sectors, though capital and intermediate goods saw a decline.

    The strongest monthly rise in the euro area came from non-durable consumer goods, which increased by 3.0% in June. Energy output was up by 1.5%, and durable consumer goods production grew by 0.3%. Conversely, capital goods fell 1.4%, while intermediate goods declined 0.8%. The euro-area industrial production index stayed steady at 98.7, with 2021 set as the base year of 100. May had already shown stronger gains in non-durable consumer goods and energy output.

    Within the EU, non-durable consumer goods rose by 2.5% month-on-month, and energy output grew by 1.0%. Durable consumer goods saw a 0.9% increase, whereas capital goods dropped by 0.9% and intermediate goods decreased by 0.7%. The EU production index rose from 100.8 in May to 101.0 in June. Starting at 99.2 in January, the index increased each month through June, based on the latest official figures.

    Differences Emerge in National Industrial Trends Across the EU

    Among member states with available data, Denmark experienced the largest monthly gain with a 5.4% rise in industrial output. Croatia followed closely with a 5.2% increase, while Lithuania and Finland each achieved a 2.1% growth. Luxembourg saw the steepest decline at 10.7%, with Portugal at 3.9% and Estonia at 2.2%. Among the major economies, Germany’s output edged up by 0.2%, France remained unchanged, Italy fell by 1.0%, and Spain declined by 0.7%.

    On an annual basis, results varied across different industrial categories. The euro area’s intermediate goods grew by 0.4% from June 2025, energy increased by 0.9%, and capital goods saw a marginal rise of 0.1%. Conversely, durable consumer goods decreased by 2.5%, and non-durable consumer goods fell by 0.5%. Across the EU, industrial output was up 0.6% year-over-year, with intermediate goods rising 1.0%, energy up 0.3%, and capital goods increasing by 0.9%.

    Lithuania Leads Annual Growth as May Data Gets Revisions

    Lithuania recorded the strongest annual increase among reporting member states, with industrial output climbing 7.7% from June 2025. Denmark followed with a 6.1% rise, and Poland saw a 4.9% increase. Finland’s output grew by 4.6%, Hungary advanced 4.1%, and Czechia increased 4.0%. Luxembourg experienced the largest annual decline at 7.9%, while Romania fell 5.6% and Estonia dropped 4.6%. Germany and France each declined by 0.5%, with Italy falling 0.6%, and Spain seeing a 1.0% rise.

    Eurostat also revised upward its estimates for May after updating the figures released in July. The euro-area monthly growth was adjusted to a 0.3% increase from an earlier 0.2% decline. The EU’s monthly figure shifted to a 0.3% gain from a previously reported 0.1% decrease. For May, annual production was revised to a 0.1% decline in the euro area and a 0.6% increase across the EU. These calculations rely on seasonally adjusted national industrial output data.
