CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max featuring a new variable-aperture camera and the A20 Pro chip. These models also boast extended battery life, advanced professional camera features, and a smaller Dynamic Island. Both devices operate on iOS 27 and incorporate Apple Intelligence functionalities, including Siri AI. They are available in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders begin on September 12, with the initial retail release scheduled for September 18.

The new 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera marks the first time the iPhone offers aperture control. Six laser-cut blades adjust between four aperture settings to regulate light intake and depth of field. Users can manually select these settings within the Camera app. Additionally, new Pro controls grant direct access to shutter speed and white balance. A histogram feature allows photographers to track exposure while framing shots. Apple has also enhanced Photographic Styles with texture and grain controls, enabling finer adjustments before sharing images.

Several improvements have been made to video recording on the iPhone 18 Pro series. Users now have the option to apply Cinematic effects after filming at up to 60 frames per second. The time-lapse mode supports recording in 4K with Dolby Vision HDR. Updated Audio Mix algorithms enhance voice clarity and can isolate music. The new Apple Reference Image feature captures signed sensor data in an optional Reference mode, allowing Private Cloud Compute to generate a reference image for comparison within the Photos app.

Focus on camera control and image authentication upgrades

The A20 Pro processor is built on a 2-nanometer process technology, combining a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU offers performance improvements of up to 40% over the A19 Pro. A Dual 16-core Neural Engine provides 32 cores dedicated to AI tasks and computational photography. The company has also redesigned its thermal management system with a next-generation vapor chamber, which has a surface area three times larger than previous versions. According to tests, this design supports up to 40% higher sustained performance.

Battery life sees improvements across both Pro models, with eSIM-only variants gaining additional capacity due to the removal of the SIM tray. The iPhone 18 Pro provides up to 36 hours of video playback in Apple’s testing conditions, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can last up to 45 hours. Wired charging can bring the device to 50% in approximately 15 minutes. eSIM-only versions will debut in Bahrain, Canada, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and other supported regions.

Siri AI and iOS 27 enhance the software features

The latest iOS 27 update introduces Siri AI to the new iPhones as part of the latest Apple Intelligence release. The beta rollout begins on September 14 for supported devices configured in English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish is scheduled for October. Siri AI can utilize personal context from messages, emails, and photos when users seek information. It also responds to on-screen content and assists via the Camera app. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s worldwide marketing chief, highlighted improvements in camera, performance, battery, and intelligence.

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at $1,299. Both models are available with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. Customers in over 65 countries and regions can pre-order starting at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12. The first wave of sales kicks off on September 18 in selected markets, followed by another release in 20 additional countries and regions on September 25, completing the initial rollout stages.
