STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – Official statistics reveal that Sweden’s industrial production decreased by 1.5% in June compared to the previous year. Additionally, after seasonal adjustment, output fell 0.4% from May. Statistics Sweden reported that the industrial Production Value Index stood at 112.4, down from 112.9 in May. The June figure follows a revised 7.6% year-on-year increase in May, indicating a clear reversal from the previous month’s robust annual growth.

Manufacturing output experienced a 1.0% decline from June 2025 and a 0.4% decrease from May. Mining and quarrying saw a more significant drop, falling 13.8% annually, with output in that sector also decreasing 3.3% compared to May. Industry accounts for 20.2% of Sweden’s broader private-sector production measure, with manufacturing comprising most of that share, representing 19.4 percentage points of the total weight.
Despite the decline observed in June, industrial activity remained higher throughout the second quarter. The average output from April through June increased by 4.0% compared to the same period in 2025. Seasonally adjusted data shows a 4.8% rise in production from the previous three months. Meanwhile, Sweden’s total private-sector output also grew in June, rising 0.4% from May and 1.8% year on year.

Services sector output declined slightly by 0.2% from May but remained 3.0% above June 2025 levels. Construction activity increased by 2.0% in the month and was 7.6% higher than a year earlier. The services index stood at 111.9, compared to 112.1 in May, while construction rose to 94.9 from 93.0. Services make up 67.2% of the overall production measure, with construction accounting for 8.4%.
Additional data from Statistics Sweden indicated a significant rise in new industrial orders during June. Total orders grew by 32.3% from May after seasonal adjustment. They were also 29.9% higher than June 2025 on a calendar-adjusted basis. Export orders surged 56.5% from May and 57.6% compared to the same month last year. Domestic orders remained nearly unchanged month-on-month but declined 7.4% annually.
Transport equipment leads export order gains, with overall orders climbing
Transport equipment experienced the strongest growth among key industrial order categories. Orders in this sector increased by 101.0% from May and 118.2% from June 2025. Manufacturing orders rose 33.2% on the month and 31.2% annually, while capital-goods orders gained 45.5% from May and 50.7% year over year. Conversely, mining and quarrying orders fell 1.8% month-on-month and 19.0% compared to June 2025.
For the first half of 2026, total industrial orders exceeded the same period in 2025 by 4.0%. Export orders grew by 6.6% over that six-month span. The indicators for production and orders reflect different segments of industrial activity: the Production Value Index tracks output changes at constant prices, while the orders series captures new demand from domestic and international clients. Initial monthly figures may be revised as additional data becomes available.
