GATE Space leads the BEACONSAT initiative, providing propulsion, structural components, and thermal management systems. The Austrian firm, spun off from TU Wien in 2022, specializes in spacecraft propulsion and has completed over 8,000 hot-fire tests in atmospheric and vacuum conditions. The project has also received approximately 750,000 euros from Austrian public funds for technological advancements.
Additional partners contribute vital systems for the satellite’s navigation monitoring role. Graz’s IGASPIN supplies interference detection and analysis technology for global navigation satellite systems. Denmark’s Space Inventor contributes hardware, including the onboard computer. The European Space Agency also backs the project through its Marketplace program, which facilitates testing commercial space systems in operational environments during technology demonstrations.
Launch to Mark Austria’s First Military Satellite Mission
BEACONSAT’s primary focus is on collecting data related to interference, with no weapons or offensive capabilities onboard.
